One of the many highlights on our trip to Germany last summer. What a treat to see the facility where my R1200S was built back in ’01. Next time I visit I’ll be bringing a treat home with me!

Sadly I have had a number of problems with my Bike. Started with a odd loose clutch issue. Changing bite point. Assessment came back that the gearbox should be changed. That happened. And under warranty which was amazing. Bike came back. All seemed good. Back in for a service (as always at BMW dealer) oil leak was found from the engine case. Back in to be inspected. Answer came back that the whole engine should be replaced. That happened. So from about 6 months from a brand new off the shelf engine being fitted there has been paint flaking issues. My bikes are kept in a dry garage. And always kept clean and salt free. Not that many other owners are not careful with the care of there motorcycles, in my case as an IAM observer I’m very conscious of caring for what I ride.

Have owned various BMW’s for 15-18 years. Sadly this is not what you would expect from a premium priced adventure bike. How can this be ok you would ask? My 1974 90/6 which is pretty much untouched is in better condition than my GS. I would welcome any comments and thank you for your response. I’m a simple woman like coffee pizza and BMW. Doesn’t a hybrid run on petrol when the batteries are flat? And doesn’t a hybrid weigh more than a petrol car because of the heavy batteries? So that means the fuel consumption when running in petrol only mode is worse than a petrol only car. Surely the success of the electric car is going to be determined not by car manufacturers but by battery technology. Why not use a tiny petrol engine to drive a generator which, in turn powers the car through electric motors all the time? That means a low emission petrol engine and no heavy batteries to carry around.
