There are times when I feel like I’m going to have a nervous breakdown because he gets stuck on something and will ask me what feels like 100 times!! Tattoos pretty eyes and thick thighs It does get easier! Part of it is getting used to them and some of it is just their behaviors getting better as they mature. Hang in there! My son is a very sweet and loving soul and I wouldn’t trade him for anything!!

Also, do not underestimate an autistic person’s level of self-awareness. I often deal with people who are shocked when I read their ocular cues faster than a non-autistic person. That little ability is courtesy of both my brain’s lack of filtering of information gleaned from eye contact, Tattoos pretty eyes and thick thighs as well as my maternal grandparents training me on how to maintain eye contact enough to blend in back when I was a little kid. I love this because it gives me more ideas and helps me understand my son better. The only problem I have is I think that is the most difficult part for me being the mom of a nonverbal autistic toddler is the fact he does better with repetition and I LOTHE repetition. I can’t even help it. For some reason more than 3 times repeat and I get pissed off. So its really hard to teach him by myself.
Be cool and click it!
If the person repeats a question over & over it’s good to get them to tell you the answer. My Autistic daughter, who is now 27, used to ask ‘What’s for dinner?’ every morning over & over, I would tell her 2 or 3 times then when she asked again I’d say ‘You tell me, what’s for dinner?’ She’d think for a few minutes & then tell me the answer & wouldn’t ask again until the next morning!
Show them a picture of what’s for dinner, or better yet show them and have some ingredients on the counter that day. If non verbal, does he/she have a favorite movie or TV show? If so watch it with them and try talking to him like a character in the show or movie. It might not work the first time, but the more you know about the character he is interested in the better.
