I think it’s both/and. Because my traits were unusual and undiagnosed as a kid and therefore I never got help, and because Pineapple autism awareness. I have a hard time fitting my traits into the capitalist structure, I am occupationally disabled.

But I think in a better school system and with more supportive parents, I could have built on my strengths and figured out an occupation for myself and be a lot more capable. Instead, I am floundering and still trying to figure out how to support myself. Having a disability and being neurodiverse aren’t mutually exclusive, and as terms they account for different things. Pineapple autism awareness. Neurodiversity is about people’s processes being different from what’s considered the norm; disability is when that meets social structures that don’t account for your needs. This is like using person-first language or using terms like “exceptional” like it’s miraculous when we function in society. Next time maybe ask people who are disabled what they prefer to be called rather than diagnosticians.

Someone commented on this post that not being able to work isn’t a disability, society’s expectation that adults work, is what makes it a disability. Well when everyone is neurodiverse, the supermarkets will be quiet, because no one will work full time to put food in them, sell them, be the pharmacists, be the psychologists, clean houses, teach children, work in hospitals or change the nappies of adults that need it. But somehow a society where people are productive and have capacity to work is wrong!!!
Yes, I commented on this post to say that and guess what, I happen to teach. My exact point is that just because you’re disabled doesn’t mean you’re incapable of doing anything or that you’re a burden on society. Where in the hell did I say people having the ability to work is wrong? Seriously, you speak as though simply acknowledging that people are different leads to apocalypse. Maybe conduct some research on this issue rather than speak from your ignorant perspective some time.
