To be perfectly honest, autism is a spectrum. He could be slightly aspie. My husband flapped, spun, walked on his toes and didn’t talk until he was 4. Rick and morty I suck at apologies so unfuck you or whatever Then one day he went from no language to giving change at a garage sale! He ended up at an Ivy League college. He is a little aspie, but not autistic.

Just an fyi, these sort of pre-autistic traits that reversed themselves as the boys became 4 or 5 were common in the 70’s and before. Since the mid-80’s these have not been reversing themselves and these boys (and now girls) are not developing language. So, a child who was just thought of as a “late bloomer” 40 years ago, is now at risk for autism. Rick and morty I suck at apologies so unfuck you or whatever. Scientists have speculated what changed in the environment since then, but there are so many possible factors that it is hard to know for certain why. The message is “Don’t Wait and See!” Early Intervention can change the course a person’s life dramatically. My son now 23, also flapped his wrists and hands when he was younger. As he got older, the flapping got less frequent although it never went away completely. He wasn’t diagnosed as autistic but he has Aspergers which is on the spectrum. He is finishing up college as a music major and doing really well. I couldn’t be more proud of him.
Hope you like it and enjoy!
I’m sorry your doctor ignored your concerns. My son was also nonverbal at that age but luckily I persisted and got him into an early program to help with his fine motor skills and speech delays. His vocabulary now would put any adult to shame at age 23 so don’t lose hope. This is why Gemiini is so important. No one needs a diagnosis to get the therapy they need, when the need it. Also, we hear this sad story so often from the UK.. They just take forever to diagnose and then then, in may places, they won’t offer therapy after 5 years old! It is very difficult to get girls diagnosed, the older they get the more they differ from their male counterparts and the testing for it is male characteristic biased. If you want her diagnosed try to find an organization studying girls on the spectrum, I believe a college in California and Kansas is in process of developing a test for girls so they can be diagnosed properly after 5 yrs age. Girls present differently and unless they are on the more severe side of the spectrum are often missed. For example, I have never seen, a girl twirl a car wheel near the corner of her eyes, and that is one of the most common tell-tale signs with boys.
