I hope someday the AKC will recognize them, but for us, being AKC registered is not important to us because she’s such a great pet. I asked god for a true friend so he sent me a Labrador Retriever This was 4 of our pet therapy teams at the local mall with the Easter Bunny!
I asked god for a true friend so he sent me a Labrador Retriever shirt
We’ve had 3 labs, 2 registered, and the last one living in the house for 15 1/2 years 24/7. Wonderful pets, watchdogs, and companions. When the last one passed in 1998, neither my husband nor I got over it for a long time, never wanting to get another dog. It hurt worse than when we lost the first lab we had for 7 years before she passed. I even found that I distanced myself from all dogs, but especially labs. It was so traumatic for us. I didn’t want to be hurt that bad again and neither did he. Then I started seeing fluffy dogs called labradoodles and goldendoodles, and finally was able to talk my husband into getting a labradoodle.
I felt that we would have a great pet without it looking like our labs. Well, here we are now almost 6 years later with a labradoodle and oh, what a joy she is…. the pet, watchdog and companion I had hoped for. She might not be full blooded lab, but she’s a gem and my husband, whom it took a lot of talking to get him to agree to a labradoodle not a lab or even into getting a dog, period, I asked god for a true friend so he sent me a Labrador Retriever and Lacey are so close. She is like as our son calls her “our 3rd child.” While the AKC does not recognize them as a breed, they are becoming more and more popular in my area. Lacey & I are a pet therapy team at one of our hospitals and 3 of the 5 dogs are “doodles,” 2 being labradoodles.
