As a final point of clarity, I want to again reiterate that all of us have a responsibility to stand up to racism, racial insensitivity, etc. Daddy you are as badass as vegeta as strong as goku as fearless as gohan shirt in all of its many forms. I have learned a lot from this conversation and I hope others did too. Thanks again to all! Cheers!

That being said, I do not think racism is a simple topic. I do not think these things are, bad pun intended, black and white. Life is full of gray and, in this specific example, we see how good people sometimes have bad habits. I struggle to place these people side-by-side with the KKK and see them as equal. There does not seem to be hatred, malice, or superiority involved here; Daddy you are as badass as vegeta as strong as goku as fearless as gohan shirt only learned behaviors and thoughtlessness. That does not mean we should ignore it or that we should not, perhaps, gently correct them but I do think it is worlds apart from what the word “racist” tries to convey. Labeling these people as racist, in my opinion, diminishes the power of that word. I agree that what they are saying in private is something that should be frowned on. Racial slurs, rude comments, etc. are things that I too would like to see removed from humanity’s day-to-day.
Take it and hang out with it
So well thought out and expressed. I wish that they would position it right at the top of this post so that your thoughts would get the exposure that they deserve. And would be a benefit to all. I think I see what you are saying about accountability but perhaps I am expressing myself in an unclear manner. I do not think these people should be praised for their words and I do not think they are blameless. Their words can easily cause harm. I do not condone this type of behavior and I hope that these seemingly otherwise good folk overcome this deplorable habit. All accountability being applied to them, I still hesitate to label them as racists. Their actions do not seem to be those of a racist. If they treat all races with kindness, respect, and do not allow their actions towards other races to be influenced by their bad word choices then I do not think “racist” is the correct term for them. Surely we can agree that there is some difference between them and the KKK, right? If so, then I think it is important that we distinguish between that.
