Metal is the only music in the world that requires talent. And try screaming like Randy Blythe, you stupid jackoff. It takes a lot of practice to do it without making your throat bleed. Just because you are too fucking stupid to know how to listen to the vocals doesn’t mean they are shit, it means your brains are shit.
Heavy metal is god’s apology for pop music shirt, hoodie
So metal is now pop so what do we call the style formerly known as pop? I suggest corporate. Metal is not pop (well, Metallica, Slipknot and those sell outs are for sure) but black metal, death metal, doom metal, viking/pagan/folk metal will always come from the underground. Heavy metal is god’s apology for pop music. Metallica made heavy music popular! Without them, I would not have been able to bridge the gap between Hendrix and zep to come to appreciate more traditional metal bands like (the 80s) testament, we just listen to songs regardless of whether they’re the latest thing or not.

Have a nice time in here!
Pop fans generally stop listening to a song or artist after a couple of months, metal fans generally still listen to 40-year-old songs and bands and enjoy it. Pop changes frequently, and is largely disposable “hits” that play on catchiness, and appeal to simple mainstream tastes. Rock and metal have longevity on its side, mainly because they stick to their guns despite mainstream trends. You can’t compare the two and say that metal is more popular. The method here is all wrong. You’re comparing classic, well-loved metal acts with well-established fandoms to what people happen to be listening to in the charts this week. Need I remind you all that the greatest selling album by a long, long margin, is “Thriller” by Michael Jackson. “The king of pop” still sits the throne, folks. The metal may have more loyal fans- sure- but it is not categorically more popular than pop.
