Its a new and innovative idea to solve a problem. The idea that it takes 100 M CF of water to make them and they save 60 M CF of water EACH YEAR means that after 2 years they have “payed” for themselves. Am I missing some kind of ill-informed mid-western logic here? If you are implying that nothing new and innovative comes out of the mid-western red states then I guess I see where you are coming from, but I think that is mean to point out. And no one probably took into consideration the chemicals leeching into said water from the plastic balls after being heated by the sun. Eeyore i do not have a screw loose it fell out mug But who cares, only peasants use tap water. Youve never seen plastic in direct sunlight everyday in a desert? It’ll crack and sink in a year in AZ & so-cal where i grew up. Throw in hail from monsoon season and youll quickly find these at the bottom of the pond.

When they first deployed them my two thoughts were- they are black which makes them trap heat and won’t the water coated on the ball make the water evaporate faster due to more surface area plus attract more algae? History tells us that Interfering with the natural process is not a great idea. Polluting environment to reduce evaporation is basically another problem that they are creating. Hopefully, reducing deforestation and growing more trees, and effective water usages are better ways to do it. Reducing your morning bathing water would alone make a huge difference.
