So, everybody’s pissed because he didn’t validate your existence but instead said “everybody”. Get your shit together and be thankful he didn’t say “All the queers”. I’m pretty sure we as people don’t always have to be separated by sex, color etc. Especially when it is over a disease that doesn’t discriminate.

As a 54-year old HIV-positive queer who fought against the stigma of this being a “gay disease” in my twenties and thirties, I think it’s IRONIC that you would make this argument! Yes, our community may have been hardest hit but that doesn’t change the fact that HIV/AIDS isn’t a gay disease. The disease simply doesn’t discriminate and to be completely frank I imagine there would have also been an outcry if he (Trump) had specifically identified the LGBT community while talking about the disease. I’m not thrilled with a lot of Trump’s actions and comments but for fuck’s sake people, quit trying to “find reasons” just to be pissed off by the cretin. That’s no different than what some alt-right conservatives did with Barack Obama.

Dabbing Unicorn LGBT Gay Pride. It is just standard tone-deaf Trump. He has appointed numerous rabidly anti-gay people to important posts. So it is not surprising that he did not mention them, any ore than when he said there were very good people on both sides when talking about Nazis and a Nazi who killed a woman. He could have mentioned how gays had been demonized by the AIDS crisis and made some attempt at mending fences, but he is just incapable of even trying when the opportunity is presented to him. Trump has also been working non-stop to take health-care from people. This also resonates strongly with the gay community. During the early days of the AIDS epidemic, health insurance companies simply refused to pay any medical bills of any of their customers with AIDS. They decided it was cheaper to just fight them in court until they died. Since there was no marriage, their lovers had no standing to sue or continue the suit, and frequently their families had kicked them out of their homes as teenagers so there was no help there either.
