So if cats bring you dead things because you’re a lousy hunter who doesn’t know how to cat, but OUR cats have never brought us any dead things, does that mean the cats think we’re adequate hunters?

Cats bring you food because you bring them food. It is a gift of respect for the Head of the Den, not because they think you fail at being a cat. My cat was 19 years old when he went off to die by himself. Before he left, he brought 3 rats and left at the front door. And when we were looking for him we found he also left two at the back door. It was his way of saying goodbye. Annoyed kitty touchy kitty grouchy ball of fur moody kitty. That’s a beautiful thing your cat did. I genuinely believe animals have a more sentimental understanding than what we give credit for. Your cat loved you so much that he left you gifts, the last meal in cat eyes before he ended his last day of suffering.

If that does not love I don’t know what is. Well, I’ve done a lot of learning about cats, they bring dead animals because it’s respected and shows that you are the leader of the colony. Dogs do the same thing to show you are the leader of the pack. That is absolutely true they bring home the prey to the leader of the pack and they are looking for praise and they love it when you praise them for it. Once again the self-centered humans think that cat behavior has anything to do with them. Cats bring prey home because it’s their den and they would bring prey home to their den even if you didn’t live there. I had pneumonia a few years back and my very fat, very lazy, the non-huntress cat came to me with a dead shrew (from my basement) and tried to feed it to me. I think she was scared I would die and that there would be no one to fill the food dish. When I lived in the country all my outside cats (all fixed) would bring them to the back door or wait there with their gift until we would come home.
